Windows laptops have never had a chip quite like this. NVIDIA RTX Spark puts a Blackwell RTX GPU and a 20-core Grace CPU on one superchip, backed by up to 128GB of unified memory. Pre-orders opened on 7 October at a Microsoft event in San Francisco, and the first laptops arrive on 16 October. Compact desktops follow in November.
Alongside it, NVIDIA previewed DGX Station for Windows, a deskside AI supercomputer for enterprise teams. Here’s what both products are, what they cost, and where Windows goes from here.
What Is NVIDIA RTX Spark?
RTX Spark is a superchip for Windows 11 laptops and small desktops. It pairs an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores and an NVIDIA Grace CPU with up to 20 cores. The two are linked at 600GB/s, and MediaTek worked with NVIDIA on the custom CPU design. NVIDIA quotes up to 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance.
The headline feature is memory. The CPU and GPU share one pool of up to 128GB, so a large AI model or a huge 3D scene doesn’t have to be squeezed into a separate block of graphics memory. NVIDIA says that’s enough to run models of up to 120 billion parameters locally, with a context window of up to 1 million tokens.

Why Arm and Unified Memory Matter
Grace is an Arm design, so RTX Spark laptops are Windows on Arm machines. Engadget points out that the approach mirrors Apple Silicon: Arm cores, fast unified memory, and GPU and NPU hardware in one package. Microsoft says the Arm design makes it easier to guarantee performance on battery. In Engadget’s hands-on, Gears of War: E-Day ran smoothly at slightly above 1080p both plugged in and on battery.
There’s a catch. NVIDIA’s announcement and product page say little about how older x86 software and games run on this hardware, and nothing about anti-cheat. Apps compiled natively for Arm will fly. Everything else depends on emulation, so check your must-have software before you buy.
Windows Is Being Rebuilt for AI Agents
The hardware is half the story. Microsoft announced general availability of Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC), operating system infrastructure that lets AI agents run in the background under Windows’ control. NVIDIA adds OpenShell, a runtime where you set what an agent can and can’t touch. It can route queries to local models based on your privacy rules, and it can mask personal details in anything sent to the cloud.
Open source agents such as Hermes Agent and OpenClaw are building Windows apps on this layer. The pitch is simple: your agent runs on your own PC, your data stays there, and there’s no per-prompt fee. NVIDIA calls it a shift from tool to teammate. Whether people actually want an agent running all day is a separate question, but the plumbing is now in Windows.
The RTX Spark Laptops and Desktops Coming
NVIDIA’s product page names six laptops: the ASUS ProArt P16, Dell XPS 16, HP OmniBook Ultra 16, Lenovo Yoga Pro 9n, Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra and MSI Prestige N16 Flip AI+. Acer and Gigabyte are also on the list of partners.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is the flagship. Engadget’s hands-on describes a minimalist aluminium machine that feels better than any Windows laptop the reviewer has held, weighing just under 4.5 pounds. It has a 15-inch mini-LED touchscreen, USB-C, HDMI, a full-size SD card slot and a magnetic USB-C charging cable. It starts at $2,599 in the US. UK pricing hadn’t been confirmed in the sources I checked, so expect a premium figure in pounds. [LINK: Surface laptops]
The compact desktops use the same 6,144-core chip at 140W and are built to run agents around the clock. They go on sale in November.
Gaming and Creating on RTX Spark
NVIDIA claims AAA games will run at 1440p and over 100 frames per second with DLSS 5, Reflex and G-SYNC. Treat that with caution. It’s one sentence in the announcement, with no game, settings or power level attached, and nobody outside NVIDIA has measured it yet. [LINK: Gaming laptops]
For creators, the case is clearer. NVIDIA says the memory handles 3D scenes of 90GB and above and 12K 4:2:2 video editing. Adobe is rebuilding Photoshop and Premiere for the platform, promising up to 2x faster AI and editing performance. Blender, ComfyUI and DaVinci-style workflows get RTX features that Arm laptops have lacked until now.
NVIDIA DGX Station for Windows
DGX Station has always been a Linux machine. The Windows version runs on the GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip, with 748GB of coherent memory and up to 20 petaFLOPS of FP4 compute. NVIDIA says that’s enough to run trillion-parameter models at your desk.
The target is enterprise developers who live in Windows. Until now they’ve kept a Linux box for heavy AI work and Windows for everything else. Linux toolchains stay available through WSL. NVIDIA only previewed the machine, with no price or release date yet. You can register your interest on NVIDIA’s DGX Station for Windows page.
What RTX Spark Means for Windows PCs Going Forward
Three things change. First, Windows finally gets a serious answer to Apple Silicon for local AI, with enough shared memory to run big models on a laptop. Second, NVIDIA’s CUDA stack now runs natively on a thin-and-light Windows machine, so code written on RTX Spark moves up to DGX Station or the cloud without a rewrite. Third, Microsoft has committed to agents as a core part of Windows.
The honest caveat is audience. Engadget notes the benefits so far are aimed at developers and power users, while Apple Silicon helped every Mac buyer straight away. If you game, edit video or run local models, watch this closely. If you browse and write emails, an ordinary laptop still does the job for far less.
Conclusion
NVIDIA RTX Spark is the first real attempt to give Windows what Apple Silicon gave the Mac: an Arm chip with a big pool of shared memory that can run large AI models on a laptop. The 128GB ceiling, the CUDA stack and Microsoft’s new agent security layer make it a serious platform, and DGX Station for Windows gives enterprise teams a route up to trillion-parameter work without leaving Windows.
For now it’s a machine for developers, creators and power users, and the price reflects that. The gaming claims, battery life and x86 app compatibility still need independent testing, so waiting for reviews after 16 October is the sensible move for most buyers. If RTX Spark delivers, expect the same ideas to reach cheaper Windows laptops in the next couple of years. Techrater UK will test the first models as they land.
