Poly Voyager Focus 2 Review: Work In Silence Anywhere

Our Review and Specifications

Range: Premium Wireless Headset  |  Standout Feature: Acoustic Fence & Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation  |  Good To Have: 50 Meters Bluetooth Range & Wired Mode When You Run Out of Battery.

In the world of hybrid work, your audio quality is your professional reputation. Whether you are navigating a noisy open-plan office or a chaotic home environment, the Poly Voyager Focus 2 promises to create a “focus zone” wherever you stand. Building on the legacy of the original Voyager Focus UC, this successor introduces “Digital Hybrid” Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and an ultra-discreet microphone boom.

At Techrater UK, we have put this headset through its paces to see if it justifies its premium price tag. In this review, we examine the build quality, the effectiveness of the Acoustic Fence technology, and its seamless switching between devices.

Digital Hybrid ANC: Silencing the Modern Office

One of the most significant upgrades in the Poly Voyager Focus 2 is the implementation of three levels of Digital Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling. Unlike standard ANC, which can sometimes feel like “pressure” on the ears, the Focus 2 allows you to customise your environment.

  • High: Perfect for loud office chatter or airplane engines.

  • Low: Ideal for home offices where you still need to hear the doorbell.

  • Off: For maximum battery preservation.

The ear cushions are made of plush leatherette, providing a passive seal that works in tandem with the internal microphones to cancel out high-frequency distractions. Compared to the older Poly Voyager Focus vs Focus UC models, the noise reduction here is noticeably more sophisticated.

Acoustic Fence Technology: Professional Audio Anywhere

The standout feature for most professionals is the microphone. Poly has integrated its proprietary Acoustic Fence technology into the Voyager Focus 2. This system uses multiple microphones to create a virtual “fence” around your mouth. It effectively ignores any sound originating outside that fence, such as a barking dog or a nearby colleague’s conversation.

Microsoft Teams Certified and Zoom Ready

For those who spend their lives in meetings, the Microsoft Teams certified headset version includes a dedicated button to launch the app instantly. It also features a “mute” button on the earcup, though the “flip-to-mute” function on the microphone boom is far more intuitive. If you are using the headset for Zoom or Google Meet, the integration is just as seamless, providing crystal-clear audio so you never have to repeat yourself.

Battery Life and Connectivity Features

A wireless office headset is only as good as its uptime. The Focus 2 offers up to 19 hours of talk time with ANC turned off, and roughly 16 hours with it engaged. For a full day of back-to-back calls, this is more than sufficient.

  • Multipoint Bluetooth: You can connect to your smartphone and your PC simultaneously via the included BT700 USB adapter, which also provides a wireless range of up to 50 meters (164 feet) in open, line-of-sight environments.

  • Wired Mode: If you run out of juice, you can use the headset as a “corded” device via the USB cable, which also charges it.

  • Poly Lens App: This software allows you to customise settings, update firmware, and even set “health and wellness” reminders to take a break from your screen.

Desktop or Wired Charging

One of the most powerful (and often overlooked) features of the Poly Voyager Focus 2 UC is that it is not strictly a wireless headset. It offers a “hybrid” capability that allows it to function as a professional corded device when needed.

Desktop Charging Stand (Optional)

The Poly Focus 2 headset can be purchased with or without a charging stand, which is reflected in the price difference between the 2.  The stand is the most common optional accessory. It provides a sleek, vertical docking station that keeps your desk organised while ensuring your headset is always at 100% battery.

  • Connectivity: Plugs into any powered USB-A or USB-C port (depending on the model purchased) or an AC wall adapter.

  • Charging Speed: Offers a full charge in approximately 2 hours.

  • Status Indicator: Features an LED light that flashes while charging and turns solid/off once complete.

  • Compatibility: This stand is cross-compatible with the Poly Voyager 4300 UC Series but NOT the original (legacy) Voyager Focus UC.

Voyager Office Base (Advanced Upgrade)

If you require more than just power, the Voyager Office Base is a significantly more advanced “charging stand” option. It acts as a bridge between multiple communication channels.

  • Triple Connectivity: It allows the Voyager Focus 2 to connect simultaneously to a desk phone, computer, and smartphone.

  • Extended Range: Utilising the base can extend your wireless range up to 91m (300ft), compared to the standard 50m.

  • Teams Integration: Includes a dedicated Microsoft Teams button to pull the app to the forefront of your PC.

Wired Charging: Voyager Focus 2 Doubles As a Wired Headset

When it comes to Poly Voyager Focus 2 wired charging, there is a common misconception that you need the expensive cradle to keep the device powered. In reality, the headset is designed for versatile power management, whether you are at a fixed desk or hot-desking in a flexible workspace.

The Micro-USB or USB-C Connection

The Poly Voyager Focus 2 utilises either a Micro-USB or USB-C port located on the bottom of the right earcup (the same side as the microphone boom). This is the same port used for charging and wired headset modes.

Unlike the original Voyager Focus, the Focus 2 supports full audio over USB. When you plug it in via the Micro-USB or USB-C cable, it becomes a corded headset with one key advantage: it charges the battery while you continue to use it for high-fidelity calls, meaning zero downtime.

  • Charging while in use: Unlike many consumer Bluetooth headphones that shut down when plugged in, the Focus 2 allows you to charge and continue your call simultaneously.

  • Cable Requirements: While any standard Micro-USB or USB-C cable will provide power, using the high-quality shielded cable included in the box ensures the best performance if you are also using the “Audio over USB” feature.

Comfort and Build: Is it Worth the Investment?

The “sling” style headband remains one of the most comfortable designs in the industry. It distributes weight evenly across the top of the head, preventing the “clamping” sensation common in cheaper models. Weighing in at just 175 grams, it is light enough for all-day wear without causing fatigue.

While the design is professional and understated, the build quality feels robust. The metal headband is flexible yet sturdy, making it a reliable companion for commuters.

Conclusion

The Poly Voyager Focus 2 is arguably the best on-ear professional headset on the market. With its class-leading Acoustic Fence microphone and improved hybrid ANC, it solves the two biggest problems of remote work: hearing and being heard.

We were most impressed by the BT700 USB adapter, which provided a wireless range of up to 50 meters, with no disconnection throughout a 2-floor office with multiple rooms and walls.

Acoustic Fence and Digital Hybrid ANC in action in a highly busy airport was the absolute surprise. Afterall noise cancellation is probably the most sought-after feature on a headset today due to hybrid and on-the-go work.

While it is an investment, the boost in productivity and call quality, connectivity, Multi OS, battery life, Hybrid ANC, optional charging and multiple video conferencing software compatibility (eg: Zoom, MS Teams, Google Meet and more) make it the go-to Unified Communications headset for any serious professional.
